Professor Tim Edwards visits Eritrea
In a recent visit to Eritrea, Professor Tim Edwards attended a partnership meeting between the Eritrean Ministry of Agriculture, the Hemelmalo College of Agriculture and their Irish development partners from Vita, Gorta SHA and Teagasc (Irish Agriculture and Food Authority). The workshop reported on and celebrated the success of agriculture development partnerships first established in 2014 with the Eritrean government.
Professor Edwards is working with these collaborators to develop a social impact framework to measure and reflect on the community dividends that are likely to emerge from the continued work of the partners. This work, which includes potato cultivation and the crossbreeding of dairy herds, is about to be extended beyond the initial plot stage. Related projects include cook stove innovations and water pump repairs in rural communities.
